Challenge 52 - Week 12

Looking through one of my many book shelves this week I came across one of the books that triggered my love of textiles ... "Embroidery - A Fresh Approach" by Alison Liley. It was bought in a library sale in 1987, although the book itself dates from 1964.

I was midway through my A Level Embroidery course and putting together a portfolio for art college. I've never read the book, but have looked at the amazing illustrations so many times, and have used them as inspiration for many printed textiles as a student.
I loved the fact that these illustrations looked like pages from a sketchbook, and I always strive to make my sketchbook pages look busy and informative as a result.

Anyway, onto this weeks challenge ...
I am going to produce some freestyle embroidery work based on one of these illustrations. My embroidery hoop has been dusted off and i'm sorting through my threads as soon as this post is finished. I'm looking forward to this one. I want my work to look like it's travelled through time!
